Classic Beauty

When I was looking for women to be a part of my capstone project, an old friend from high school, Heather Ross, contacted me to be included.  Heather is a beautiful 6’0″ woman with amazing curls and curves.  When she sent me a message, she said that it stuck out to her that I want to help make women feel self-confident no matter their body type.  Heather invited me to her breath-taking apartment in San Francisco where she has a stunning rooftop view of the city.  I couldn’t resist my love for city rooftops, so we also did some fashion photographs for her blog for tall women, Femme Fatall.  She is a great writer, so there is content ranging from tutorials, street style interviews, women’s fashion in media, indie designers, and of course vintage fashion.

The was the first time I did one of my sessions indoors, so I was extremely nervous when I walked into her house.  But as soon as it was time to go, the nerves melted away and the shoot worked out beautifully.  Heather preferred the header image in color, but I thought the black and white looked effortlessly timeless.  After our indoor session, we walked around her (amazing) apartment complex to take some fashion photos with a recently fixed up dress.  The sunny yellow floral print looked breathtaking against the skyline and her apartment added to the 60’s Mad Men vibe (which is one of my favorite tv shows).

For part of my project, I had each woman write by hand a few 1-2 sentences about how the photographs made them feel when they saw them.  Heather sent me a beautiful sentence that really touched me.

This is the reason I do this.  I want women to feel confident in the way they perceive themselves, because I think that everyone is self-conscious to some degree.  My hope is that my work will show you that no one should have to fell this way.  You don’t need a professional make-up artist or hairstylist to see the true beauty in a person.  These photographs are every bit of the person in them.

Laci

Back in late April I started shooting my boudoir/glamour work for my capstone class.  My beautiful classmate (and fellow photographer) Laci Havens was the first girl to respond reach out to me and my project.  She had told me that she wanted to try doing a shoot that was out of her comfort zone so we were both anxious about shooting things that were new to us.  Even though Laci had never done anything like this before, she was a natural at posing and she felt very comfortable.  We traveled all over the Santa Barbara mountain areas and had so much fun during the shoot.  Here are the photographs from one of the most inspirational shoots I’ve done so far.

After the shoot we both felt so happy.  Laci told me when she saw the photographs that she had never felt so pretty and confident in herself.  This shoot with Laci was the moment that I realized that this is what I want to do for a living.  To make a woman feel beautiful with my imagery is the most I could ask for.  Nowadays everyone seems to have issues with their body and I want to be able to show them that no one has to look like a runway model or movie star to feel confident and beautiful.

Nothing Like a Smile

Friendship is the most important thing to me.  I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by a solid group of friends who I can always laugh with.  Elisa has been in my life since (the dreaded) 7th grade and we have been through lots of experiences together.  She is currently going to Ball State in Muncie, Indiana getting her masters in music and I am so proud of her pursuing her passion in life.  We did a little impromptu shoot one afternoon while I was visiting home this summer and we had lots of fun discovering the backroads of a nearby town and an organ that was abandoned on the side of a vineyard.

Elisa told me that one of the things she misses most while at school is the landscapes and feel of California.  I hope that these photographs are something to remind her of home and the fun times we have when together as she goes back to school.

Summer Playdate

I can remember being so incredibly nervous for the first paid shoot I ever did.  My dad’s cousin referred me to them so I had not met them before going to their house to photograph.  I was welcomed into their home, and it is still one of my most memorable shoots.   Carola and Luna were a joy to work with, so I was excited when I was called on again to help them create a gift for her husband for his birthday.  We went to a park and they brought along paint and crafting supplies to create some signs for him to celebrate Father’s Day as well as some other accomplishments.  We had a fun time painting, picking flowers, and just enjoying the sunshine.

Carola and her family absolutely loved the end product and I was so happy to have pleased them again with my work.  I’ve come long way since 2010, and I hope they will continue to be a part of my photography.

Feeling Beautiful and Confident

Confidence in the way I look has always been an issue for me.  I think it’s a difficult thing for majority of the women in the world which is why I love boudoir photography.  It gives women a chance to see themselves in photographs in a way they have probably never been photographed before.  This is my third boudoir/glamour shoot and every time I finish one, it feels so rewarding.  Danielle is a friend of mine who was looking for portraits for a birthday gift.  We had a great time out in nature and her home to create photographs that she absolutely loved.

And now, here comes some great news!  I am going to do a final project for all of my time at Brooks Institute that centers around boudoir and glamour photography.  I am currently looking for women who are interested in a session with me.  I am looking for women of all types because I believe that everyone deserves to feel confident and sexy.  Providing you with beautiful and classy photographs is my goal and I hope that you will have a great experience on the shoot.  The first 6 women to set up a session with me also get one free, matted photograph once we finish up the shoot.  If you need more references of my boudoir photography, I would be happy to send you some of my work.  Feel free to contact me if you are interested and I am so excited to tell you more about my ideas.
