Influence and Inspiration of Films

The things I love have always inspired my portraits.  Lately, my biggest inspiration has been film and my favorite directors.  I have always loved films, especially ones with very visual aesthetics.  2011 really helped me get into film as a powerful tool to reach an audience.  Since January 1st, 2012 I have been working on a 365 movie challenge and recording my journey through film on tumblr.  Color, composition, and feel have always stuck out to me in movies, but it is just as important to have a feel and story.  My favorite movies usually have great stills that you can grab at any time and it would create beautiful wall art.  When I take photographs, I try to do the same.  I want to be able to take moments from your life and relationships that you can keep.  When you can look at a photograph and remember the emotions that you had when I hit the shutter, then I’ve done my job.

Here are some stills from some of my favorite movies.  Style, composition, color, and content are the elements that create a beautiful image.

Moonrise Kindgom, 2012

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2004

Welcome to the blog of Lauren Kanegawa!  I have been through the blogging world since 2009 when I started up a small blog using Blogger.  Shortly after starting at the Brooks Institute of Photography I began a separate blogger to showcase my work.  I had no clue how to use a WordPress, so I just stuck with Blogger.  Just last year I moved on to Tumblr and have found a great place to make friends with like-minded interests.  Now I am about to start my professional blog here to further my business.  I am currently working on my website and going through lots of different content-management sites to try and find my best fit.  Until then you can find my work at Kanegawa Photography and I hope you enjoy!  I can’t wait to share more tips and photographs with you all.
